Last weekend we played for the first time at Girvan Folk Festival. Paul, Ewan and Seán have been attending the festival for years so it was exciting for them to be on the stage this time. We were all hoping to hear the Lúnasa concert on Saturday night but of course we were on stage at another venue at the same time.
The sun was shining most of the weekend which was just as well for Paul and Ruairidh as they were sharing a two man tent that Paul bought for £10 in Lidl. They couldn’t even fit inside it properly and Paul burst the door climing into it on Friday night.
We played the Catholic Hall on Saturday night and although it wasn’t well attended due to the Lúnasa concert, we had a good time. Singer Sean Donnelly was a favourite with great songs and humour.
Seán and his sister Robyn played at the open stage on Sunday in the Catholic Hall and won it! They played a short set before our gig at the Westcliffe Hotel. The gig was much busier than Saturdays and went very well. The heat on stage was extreme though and everyone of us were ready to pass out at the end of it. For the encore we were joined on stage by our young friend Sean Donnelly (not the same one as above) on Darabuka for Red Mary.
