We have recently returned home from probably our best (definitely longest) tour to date. The tour started at Cambridge Folk Festival, England. Here we closed The Den Stage on the Thursday night to a fantastic audience, and were fortunate enough to play at Brian McNeill’s Festival Session on the Saturday afternoon. At the session we played along side some great acts including Danú, Abigail Washburn, Damien O’Kane, Mànran and many others.
From Cambridge we flew out to Canada to play and teach at Goderich Celtic Roots Festival in Ontario. On arrival we met up with Seán Earnest and Andrew Finn Magill. Special thanks to Finn for stepping in on fiddle for our North American leg of the tour with only four days notice! Finn did a great job learning all of our material in a such a short space of time, however we were very disappointed with his attempt at a Scottish accent. We had a fantastic week of teaching and playing at Goderich.
After Goderich we drove down into the USA with a pit stop at the Niagara Falls. We started off at The Old Songs Summer Camp in Voorheesville, NY. We had another great few days of teaching and finished off the week with a concert. From there we travelled to The Spencertown Academy Arts Centre NY, the beautiful Earville Opera House NY, a few days in Rochester MN, and finally finishing off at the mighty Milwaukee Irish Fest WI. It was wonderful to meet up again with The Outside Track who we had spent the week with in Goderich earlier on in the tour.
Our next leg of the tour was a small stretch across the pond to Denmark. Although obviously heartbroken to be leaving Seán and Finn, we were overcome with emotion at the sight of David McNee and Jack Smedley awaiting our arrival in Copenhagen. Our first gig was a double bill in Copenhagen with the incredible Lukas Graham Band. The next day we travelled to the Tønder Festival. We had an incredible weekend of playing and also had a chance to listen to one or two of the other bands there. Once again we found ourselves playing at Brian McNeill’s session on the main stage on the Sunday afternoon. It was great to be up on stage playing along side Lúnasa, Pokey LaFarge and the South City Three, Skerryvore, De Dannan and of course Ron Kavana & Brian McNeill as well as many others. We spent the next week island hopping through Denmark playing in Hanstedt Svendborg, Gyngen Århus, Portalen Greve, Tisvilde Folk Festival, Halkær Kro Nibe, and the Wintercoat Brewery Sabro (some of the finest ale in Denmark!). Special thanks to the pupils at the music school in Humble. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to end the tour.
We are all now well rested and ready for our next trip back to America. Check out the tour dates page on our site for more information. Hope to see some of you along the way. If not, keep checking our website for updates.
